3D Printers, Brownies and Chihuahuas - Xmas Expo 2018

For many workplaces December is Christmas party season. Though for small businesses like us with fewer staff, it can sometimes be difficult to get into the festive spirit. That’s why we love attending networking events with other local businesses…especially when they’re Christmas themed!

On Wednesday 19th December, we attended the Christmas Buy Local Norfolk business expo at the Forum here in the heart of Norwich. It was our first year as members and we’d been looking forward to it for months.

We believe it’s really important to support local businesses and offer them the recognition they deserve. After all it’s the season of giving, the perfect time to give back to your local community.

Whether it’s hiring local tradesmen, buying from independent businesses or hiring Norwich-based companies like us, you can make a difference.

As it was our first expo, we came armed with our trustee 3D printer. Our Director Chris and newest member of the team, Alex used it to showcase our electronic skills. In-between printing out branded key rings, we were on hand to talk about our custom-made websites and software.

We were also fortunate enough to be joined by marketing expert Laura Landamore of Willow Park. Her expertise in field marketing is invaluable, but some credit needs to go to her Toby, her Chihuahua who was our honorary mascot for the day and created quite a buzz amongst visitors!

Overall, it was a fantastic event and served to remind us why buying local is best. Buy Local Norfolk has a mantra, “If you love where you live, buy local” and we wholeheartedly agree. While smaller businesses appreciate your custom, there are even more benefits to buying local.

Buying local means there’s less environmental impact so you can do your part to live and shop responsibly. It also boosts the local economy directly, providing better social outcomes for everyone, whether you live in Norfolk or you’re just visiting.

Some of you may have seen the recent television Visa Keep It Local ads encouraging people to support local businesses rather than big corporations. We love this ad campaign, despite some of the slightly out of tune singing involved.

We’re not judging of course, especially as Mariah Carey is a difficult singer to imitate. Though we reckon Chris could belt out an excellent rendition of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ after a few glasses of port!

We had a blast catching up with other local businesses, traders and brands — including some of our customers. It was a chance to get to know other small business owners better, increase our brand awareness and talk about what we do best.

To those of you who were in attendance, such as NU Osteopathy and Heather Flint, we hope you enjoyed it just as much as we did.

See you there in 2019!

We wish you and all of our customers a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year to come!
